About Travis
When Howard Farran called me the number one “serial” entrepreneur in the dental industry in 2017, I wasn’t sure if it was a compliment or an insult. I think what he meant is that I had pivoted more then anyone in the dental industry. By the way “pivoting” is a nice way of saying “failed” but no entrepreneur ever wants to use that word. I am ok with failing because failing just brings us one step closer to success. In my Dental Tank pitch in 2021 I called it "Falling Forward".
When I was a child we had a workshop attached to my house and my dad gave me two drawers full of radios and wires and gadgets and I would sometimes spend 15 or more hours at a stretch, tinkering, building, and inventing. I failed hundreds of times at building something that actually worked. This was my spark to becoming an inventor.
Fast forward to college where my love of invention continued when I started, built and failed at my first company. I remember the feeling of disappointment and burn out as I closed the door for the final time. I was only 22 years old and I was done being an inventor and entrepreneur so I went to work for Oracle, then a startup we sold to ADP and another startup we sold to IBM. I began to get my entrepreneurial confidence back when I was awarded the top award at IBM in 2014.
So in 2003 when my Orthodontist brother in law came to me with an idea for an electronic referral product, I got excited. But after a few years we closed the doors and realized our idea was before it’s time in dentistry. Which would be a theme for years to follow.
Fast forward to today, over the past two decades I have sold two dental companies, had 4 other offers, built 23 different software modules, helped launch hundreds of brands for others.
I’m working with hundreds of dental vendors and thousands of dental practices over the past 20 years the second biggest complaint we hear from dental practices is that their systems don’t integrate together. Number one is of course price.
Over the past ten years we have been building Custom integrations for the biggest brands in dental and if you ask Dentrix or Eaglesoft they will tell you that we are not only their top integration partner but we are their only integration partner.
Over the past two years we have sold over a million dollars in one time integrations.
The issue is that building custom integrations is expensive and time consuming.
So in my January we started RecordLink which is a dental integration marketplace
It is a subscription integration service that is free to dental practices and follows the guidelines of the various developer programs. The marketplace currently includes 15 vendor intention partners and it will grow to hundreds of partners this year.
We have sold $70k in subscription integration contracts since January and we are on track to triple that this quarter. These are 1-3 year monthly subscription agreements averaging $1,000 a month.
The benefits to the vendor partners is a centrally managed integration with their dental clients.
The benefit to the dental practices is to have a single sign on for all their integrations and products they use. The product is free and as a dental practice you only have to go to one place to get all your integration needs taken care of.
